#VTFlood23 Response & REcovery Mutual Aid

VERMONT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE

Green Mountain Returned Peace Corps Association

Wendy is INCREDIBLE. I have never seen anyone leverage their network to assemble a team of leaders faster than Wendy Rice. Whether in an emergency situation or general problem-solving, she has the unique and crucial ability to determine the skills needed for a project, identify highly-capable team members, recruit, assign roles, rally, support, and pivot as needed. Because she is generous and has proven reliability in her own personal network, people don’t think twice when she calls for help. Wendy is one of the most impressive leaders I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Anyone would be lucky to have the chance to work with and to know her. She has rallied all reaches of the State of Vermont in times of advocacy and in times of emergency. We all owe her a debt of gratitude.
— Monique Priestley - VT State Representative, Space on Main Executive Director
I had the privilege of working with Wendy as part of her incredible efforts to create effective and timely mutual aid responses throughout Vermont during the devastating floods of 2023 and their aftermath. Her expertise and commitment to rallying people and ensuring coordinated access to essential resources and assistance for individuals, families, and businesses in a time of crisis was beyond impressive. She is exceptionally well-organized, dedicated, and forward-thinking; someone who can be relied upon to step up and go above and beyond, no matter the circumstance.
— Pam McCarthy, former VT AHS Field Director for Franklin and Grand Isle Counties Source
In 2023, Vermont was hit with catastrophic flooding that upended the lives of so many Vermonters. Wendy brought together a group of mutual aid organizers and created a system of information sharing and connection during our ongoing months of recovery. Wendy’s attention to detail, thorough knowledge of systems and organizational skills was awe inspiring. Because of her contributions, our volunteer group became an essential part of the state’s response to the disaster. What an incredible leader!
— Kiah Morris, VT State Representative, Commissioner to the Vermont's Women's Commission
I enjoyed working with Wendy Rice on the 2023 Vermont Flood recovery effort. Wendy quickly formed a mutual aid Facebook group where those impacted by the floods could offer and seek help. Wendy worked tirelessly, patiently and with great care to communicate, gather and document resources, help people make connections and to find the help they needed. Wendy is very well organized and a great communicator. I highly recommend Wendy for jumping into any urgent situation and quickly pulling together a process and a team to address it.
— Sarah Rosedahl - Vermont Artist and Illustrator
“Working with Wendy I always feel a sense of completing a task in a better than we found it kind of way. Wendy’s professional experience and background tell you something of her heart and passion for building civic and community engagement and talking with her gives you a first-hand account of her sharp mind. Wendy is the real deal as a leader, and as a human committed to improving human centered systems. I will continue to call upon her and recommend her wholeheartedly.”
— Suzanne Trahey, VLI Director
Driven, passionate, and committed, Wendy is a critical and creative thinker who thrives on solving problems. As comfortable in the box as out of it, she brings to the table a wealth of knowledge and experience in both local and global development. Relationships accrued and then nurtured during her many years of community work fill her seemingly bottomless treasure chest of connections. She has an eye for detail, and a knack for organizing people and events. She is eminently personable, adaptable, reliable, and capable: in short, a unique and valuable asset who can be counted on to succeed.
